Slings in Motion Blend
CONTEMPORARY EDUCATION FOR MOVEMENT PROFESSIONALS & THERAPISTS
Introduction by Karin Gurtner - Founder & Principal Educator of art of motion
What moves us? Three words that have been on my mind for a number of years. Rather than looking for exclusive answers, I let them inspire me to create a movement concept that values science, functional anatomy, humanness and the imponderable alike. I called it Slings because of the myofascial slings that modulate motion and the somato-psycho-emotional-social-imponderable slings that motivate our movements.
Slings is a holistic movement concept that can be incorporated into all body-minded practices. The elaborate fascia-focused training aims for structural integration, functionality and inside-out wellbeing through conscious movement. High aspirations that come with short-term and long-lasting benefits!
Since 2008 I have developed the Slings movement concept – and I dare say that it is unique in its composition. The guiding principles and applied myofascial training techniques are science-informed and experience-led, which provides a sound base to move from. The exercise repertoire and sequences have been successfully practiced and taught by myself (of course), art of motion educators and the teachers and therapists who completed the Slings foundation education or achieved their diploma. It works a treat and quite frankly, we are proud of our participants who have ventured into this new movement world with us.
If you are interested in understanding the complexity of the fascial system in-depth in relation to movement and adding a new dimension to your practice and the practice of your clients, then the Slings Myofascial Training education is for you.
Much success and boundless energy for your unique movement journey!
SLINGS EDUCATION PATH
In the course of your Slings Education, you will be building strong skills! All of this will be leading up to attaining your Slings Diploma. The Slings Diploma is an assessment of your skills and knowledge. It is also an opportunity for you to refine these skills, clarify questions, and consolidate your understanding. The assessment day is a dynamic mix of teaching, moving, reflecting, and knowledge distillation. We encourage you to make the most of your Slings Myofascial Training education by completing your Slings Diploma course.

ANATOMY TRAINS IN MOTION
Anatomy Trains in Motion is an in-depth 3-day course for movement and bodywork professionals who love integral anatomy and body-minded exercise applications that relate to real-life in all of its dimensions.
This resource-oriented education focuses on the qualities of Thomas W. Myers’ Anatomy Trains concept that enhance everyday functionality and vitality as well as somatic resourcefulness; therefore self-healing.
The integral anatomy of the myofascial meridians is explained in interactive lectures and experienced through body-minded movement applications. For a clear comprehension of the structural and functional aspects, anatomical structures are discussed individually and as part of a myofascial meridian that shapes posture, movement and how we feel about the body.
To further connect anatomy and function, science-informed fascial qualities are exemplified and embodied with deliberate exercise examples throughout the course. In a unique way, Anatomy Trains in Motion directly links the anatomy of the myofascial meridians with the essential events of walking and body-minded movement training.
Because we want to foster independent thinking and individualized learning, we encourage an inquisitive mind and facilitate understanding through movement explorations.
Concluding the course, you will have a clear understanding of why the myofascial meridians are defined the way they are and why the Anatomy Trains concept is of immense value for all body-minded movement methods that aim for structural integrity.
Anatomy Trains in Motion is a self-contained course that is also the first module of the Slings Myofascial Training diploma education.
As a result of taking this course, you will:
Have a deeper understanding of the value of the Anatomy Trains concept as an integral body map for movement.
Understand and experience the map of the main myofascial tracks and bony stations of the Superficial Back Line, Superficial Front Line, Lateral Line and Spiral Line.
Understand the course and experience the workings of the Deep Front Line, Front Arm Lines, Back Arm Lines, Back Functional Line, Front Functional Line and Ipsilateral Functional Line.
Understand the overall postural and movement functions as well as sensory qualities of the myofascial meridians.
Have essential knowledge of the interplay of muscles and fascia in motion.
Understand functional aspects of the myofascial meridians and ways to improve them with a fascia-focussed movement training.
ANATOMY TRAINS IN MOTION COURSES 2020

Slings Essentials is a rich course for movement and bodywork professionals who want to understand fascia in motion comprehensively. The 2 days revolve all around fascia, its properties, its role in movement and how to train fascia consciously with a diverse and body-minded strategy.
The course begins with the functional definition of fascia, 4 movement relevant differentiations within the fascial system and the 6 guiding principles of the Slings Myofascial Training education.
12 science-informed fascial qualities form the main part of the education. Metaphorically speaking, they are the defined, yet interconnected elements that create the tensegral structure of Slings Essentials. Derived from the fascial qualities are 12 myofascial training techniques and 12 overarching training aims, which are also covered in the course.
In a series of interactive lectures, each fascial quality is discussed from the perspective of science, movement in general and Slings Myofascial Training specifically. Engaging demonstrations, illustrative examples and practical applications make the lectures memorable and practice-relevant.
Contrasting Slings in Motion master classes are woven into the course to deepen the embodiment of the discussed fascial qualities, myofascial training techniques and training aims.
Because knowledge propagates questions, Slings Essentials is a thought-provoking course that at the same time gives you sound information about fascia in motion and clear answers to why we train fascia the way we do.
The know-how attained in Anatomy Trains in Motion and Slings Essentials serves as the basis for the Slings in Motion repertoire courses.
